Mount Geitgaljen  1085 on Lofoten Islands:

Everybody has a dream in their pocket , and one of my dreams was to go skiing in Lofoten. Lofoten is a group of Islands in the north of Norway.
The skiing possibilities on the islands are almost limitless. The mountains shoot straight up from the ocean with steep alpine terrain and fjords on every side. This terrain is a skiers Paradise and allows you to ski from a steep summit directly to the ocean. On some of the tours  you need to start from a boat and with other tours a boat  has to pick you up after the skiing.

Mammut’s 150 anniversary gave us the opportunity that we needed to go to Lofoten. We arranged a competition for girls in the Norwegian outdoor magazine “ Ute “ in which they had to tell us about their best outdoor adventure.  The four happy Norwegian girls who won the competition and one  pro free-skier accompanied the Mammut crew to Lofoten.
Since none of us had been to Lofoten before, we contacted local event agency “XXLofoten” for more detailed information about the area and skiing. They  were really nice and helpful, and helped us organise everything with the tour.  Their knowledge and expertise about the local area and environment  made the whole tour just perfect.
With a bag full of Mammut equipment we arrived at “Thon Hotel Lofoten“.  We can absolutely recommend this beautiful hotel which serves fantastic local and homemade food.
Since Lofoten was approx 150 miles from Oslo, we decided to spend 3 days there. During these 3 days we saw a lot of beautiful peaks, places,  ate in some great restaurants and we met a lot of nice people.

Day 1: Because of bad weather we had a day in the local ski resort.
In the afternoon we went on a Rib safari
For dinner we took the rib to a small fisher island called Skrova.
At “ Ankas Guesthouse” Anka made us delicious local food in her  small and extremely cosy restaurant.
On the way back we saw the “Northern Lights”

Day 2: Next  morning we went  to Piktindane and Sautinden.
For lunch we had Sushi made from local fish in one of traditional rorbu huts ( Kalle ).
After lunch we went back to Svolvær by a local fishing boat. The weather was perfect and on the way back we did some fishing.  And of course we caught some fish.

Day 3: Early up about, 4 am we at breakfast and then it was up to the peak that we all came for, Mount Geitgaljen . The weather was fantastic and the temperature was around – 7 C. No clouds, only blue, blue sky. We wanted to be in the mountain’s to see the sunrise. And it was beautiful, the light is so special so early in the morning and there were no wind.  There had been a little snowfall the days before so the snow condition was just perfect. When you reach the top you have this amazing view, it is like being on the top of the world. When you ski down it is like skiing directly into the fjords.
We had barbeque down by the fjords in the evening. Before we left the camp we saw the beautiful sunset.

Before we left we went to Henningsvær an old fishing village.
This is a really nice place worth seeing, they have a lot of nice shops there where you can by handcraft.

This has been like a dream. Thanks to Mammut and all the people that took part in this adventure. It was like a fairy tale.

Atemberaubendes Bergpanorama, unberührter Tiefschnee und nach erfolgreicher Abfahrt ein Barbecue am Meer: So sieht ein perfekter Skitouren-Tag auf den Lofoten im Nordwesten Norwegens aus. Die Dänische Profi-Freeriderin, Anja Bolbjerg, 4 norwegische Girls und ein Bergführer haben diesen Frühling genau dies erlebt. Wo früher Wikinger auf Neuland trafen und sich auf Entdeckungsreise begaben, besteigen heute fünf begeisterte Skitourengeher einen der höchsten Berge in dieser Region, den Geitgaljern.

Tag 1 - Aufwärmrunde
Nach einem kurzen Check der notwendigen Sicherheitsausrüstung, wie Lawinenverschüttetensuchgerät, Schaufel und Sonde, geht es auf eine Aufwärmrunde durch die verschneite Landschaft zwischen Meer und alpinen Erhebungen. Dabei stellen die fünf Girls und der Bergführer erfreut fest, dass Wetter und Schnee perfekt passen: “Die Wettervorhersage und die Schneebedingungen sind super für unseren Aufenthalt. Vergangene Woche hat es nochmals 50 Zentimeter Neuschnee gegeben, der sich unter den Skis sehr weich anfühlt!” Mit den ersten Schritten öffnet sich das Panorama immer mehr und alle Beteiligten realisieren, in welch unglaublichem Naturspektakel sie sich gerade befinden. “Das ist der schönste Platz auf Erden”, meint eine der Teilnehmerinnen, Cathrine Lagerberg, während ihr Blick über die bergige Inselwelt schweift.

Tag  2 - Jetzt gilt’s ernst
Für den Gipfelsturm auf den, mit 1’085 Metern höchsten Berg der Region Vagen, den Geitgaljern, steht das Team um 4 Uhr in der Früh auf und startet den Aufstieg auf Meereshöhe. Die ersten vier Stunden geht es im Schatten bei minus 5 Grad langsam in Richtung Gipfel. Bald erreichen sie am ersten Plateau die wärmende Sonne. Der frische Tiefschnee und der Ausblick zurück lässt die Vorfreude auf die Abfahrt steigen. Geführt von Truls Korsaeth erreicht das Girls-Team dann begeistert den Gipfel! Martine Holm Frekhaug kann es kaum fassen: “Es fühlt sich an, als wärst du auf dem höchsten Punkt der Erde. Die Aussicht ist endlos und du kannst überall hinsehen!”
Nach einem kurzen Gipfelaufenthalt, ist es die Dänische Freeriderin Anja Bolbjerg, die als erst die Abfahrt unter die Bretter nimmt. Es scheint unendlich runter zu gehen bis zum Meer, wo sich alle Teammitglieder zum finalen Barbecue einfinden.
Bei frisch gefangenem und gebratenem Fisch resümiert Anja Bolbjerg den vergangen Tag: “Das ist einer der Tage, die ich nie vergessen werde! Ich habe noch nie so etwas Grossartiges erlebt!”
